ESPN legend Chris Mortensen passes away at 72

Sadly, Chris Mortensen, a legendary journalist for ESPN, passed away at the age of 72. His passing on Sunday has caused the entire sporting world to be in a state of mourning.  

Mortensen is said to have passed away early on Sunday morning, according to ESPN PR. In response to the news of Chris Mortensen's demise, Jimmy Pitaro, the Chairman of ESPN, issued a heartfelt message.  

It was widely acknowledged that Mort was a pioneer in the profession, and he was universally cherished for being a helpful and hard-working teammate.   

He covered the National Football League with an exceptional level of talent and devotion, and he was at the top of his field for several decades.   

Colleagues and fans alike will miss him tremendously, and our thoughts and best wishes are with his family and friends at this time.  

Within a short period of time following the announcement of Chris Mortensen's passing, Adam Schefter, who works for ESPN, also posted some remarks on social media.  

Over several years, Mortensen and Schefter collaborated extensively in their coverage of the NHL."A day that was really heartbreaking. Mort was a man who also happened to be one of the most accomplished sports reporters in the history of the sport.  

My deepest condolences go out to his family and to everyone who knew and loved him. A great number of them did. In every way, Mort was the best. "He will be remembered and missed for all of eternity."
